What this means
Since the Pectra upgrade, a regular wallet can delegate its code to a smart contract (EIP-7702). Some wallets use this for smart-account features like batched transactions, so a delegation is not always malicious.
Drainers abuse it by getting you to sign an authorization that installs a sweeper contract, which then forwards any funds that arrive. If you didn’t knowingly enable a delegation, assume the wallet is compromised:
- Move remaining funds to a fresh wallet with a new seed phrase.
- Remove the delegation by signing a new authorization to 0x0000000000000000000000000000000000000000 from the affected wallet. Some wallets offer this as “switch back to a regular account”.
- Never sign authorization requests from websites.
Chains without EIP-7702 support will always show no delegation.
